Delete your account
You can delete your Couple’s Quest account and its data at any time. It takes about a minute, and you don't need to contact anyone.
Delete it in the app
- Open The Couple’s Quest and make sure you're signed in.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Read the summary and confirm.
Path: Settings → Delete Account.
Deletion can't be undone. Your history and any unspent Quest Coins are gone for good. If you host a quest that is still running, transfer hosting to another player or end the quest first so nobody is left waiting.
Can't open the app? Email us
Email contact@thecouples.quest with the subject "Delete my account" and tell us:
- the display name other players see for you, and
- the name or invite code of a quest you played, and roughly when.
We don't hold your email address, so we use these details to confirm the account is yours before deleting it. Deleting in the app is faster and needs no verification. We'll confirm when it's done.
What gets deleted, and when
| Data | What happens | When |
|---|---|---|
| Your account and sign-in link | The link to your Apple Account is removed and your login sessions are revoked. You can no longer sign in to that account. | Immediately when you confirm in the app. |
| Display name | Replaced with a generic placeholder wherever other players would see it. | Immediately. |
| Your gender, if you chose to share it | Deleted. (You can also clear it in Settings at any time.) | Immediately. |
| Your card preferences, if you set any | Deleted. (You can also clear them in Settings at any time.) A card swap you offered or were sent that was still open is closed. | Immediately. |
| Your wish lists | Both lists and every item on them are deleted, and your partner can no longer see them. A challenge your partner was already dealt from one of your items keeps those words until the quest records are deleted. | Immediately. |
| Your approximate location | The latest position we hold for you (rounded to about 1 kilometre, used only to work out sunrise and sunset) is deleted. (It is otherwise deleted when your last quest ends, and after 7 days at most.) | Immediately. |
| Notification tokens | Deleted (Live Activity tokens too), so we can no longer send notifications to your devices. | Immediately. |
| Trophies, awards and your personal quest history | Deleted. These belong to your account only; other players' own trophies and the quest's results are not affected. | As part of deletion. |
| Step counts you shared on the Scores screen | Deleted. (You can also turn sharing off in Settings at any time, which removes them from every quest.) | As part of deletion. |
| Photos and videos you submitted | Deleted from our storage, except a photo or video that a safety report is holding so we can look at it (see "Safety reports" below). (Photos and videos are otherwise deleted 7 days after the quest they belong to ends.) | As part of deletion. |
| The routes recorded on GPS path and GPS distance challenges you did | The recorded route is deleted. The distance and the number of points stay with the quest record, without the route. (Routes are otherwise deleted 7 days after the quest they belong to ends.) | As part of deletion. |
| Quest Memories you posted, and your reports of other players' memories | Deleted from our storage, with their captions, and removed from the quest's feed and album, except any a safety report is holding. Reports you filed stay with us without your name, and any messages we sent you are deleted. A memory you deleted earlier in the app was only hidden from the quest: it is deleted now, or 7 days after the quest ends if that comes first. Copies other players saved to their own phones are theirs and are not affected. | As part of deletion. |
| Suggestions you sent us | Deleted, with their text and the name of the quest you sent them from. | As part of deletion. |
| Sign in with Apple connection | We ask Apple to revoke The Couple’s Quest's access to your Apple Account. | As part of deletion. |
| Quest records other players still see | Team scores, results, and review votes stay so other players' quest history remains accurate, but they're no longer linked to you. | Kept, without any link to you. |
| Server logs | Age out on their normal schedule and are not used to bring your account back. | After a limited period. |
| Backups | Our encrypted database backups (our routine backups never hold photos or videos) are deleted after about 30 days, so your account can stay in them until then. If we ever restore from a backup, we delete your account again. | Within about 30 days. |
| A temporary copy made to move our servers | Rarely, and only by hand, we may copy the database and all photos and videos into a private Google Drive account while we move servers (see the Privacy Policy). If one exists when you delete your account, your information stays in it until that copy is deleted, which happens within 30 days at the latest. Then it is gone. | Within 30 days of the copy being made. |
| Safety reports | If you were reported, or something you sent was, we keep the report and the photo or video it is about until we have decided (up to 180 days), and for 90 days after we act on it, and then delete them. If we find nothing wrong, nothing is kept. The report itself is deleted a year after we close it. We may keep it longer only if the law requires it. | As described. |
| If we banned your account | We keep a one-way scrambled version (a hash) of the identifier Apple gives our app, and our reason, so a ban holds even if you delete the account and sign in again. It can't be turned back into your identifier, and we delete it if we lift the ban. | Until the ban is lifted. |
If you sign in with Apple again later, you'll start a brand-new account with no history (unless we had banned your account, in which case you won't be able to sign in).
Also stop Sign in with Apple (optional)
You can remove The Couple’s Quest from your Apple Account too: on your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Sign-In & Security, then Sign in with Apple, choose The Couple’s Quest, and tap Stop Using Apple Account. This alone doesn't delete your quest data, so delete your account in the app or by email as well.
